I want everyone to be able to read, watch and get in touch through lydiaray.com, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or other assistive technology.

This site is run by Lydia Ray. I aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. I'm a single person running a personal site, not an organisation with an accessibility team, so this statement is honest about where the site falls short as well as where it works.

What I've done

Every image on the site, including headshots and award badges, has a text description, so screen reader users know what it shows.

Pages use clear headings in a logical order, and there is a "Skip to content" link so keyboard users can jump past the menu.

The site works on phones and tablets, and you can zoom text up to 200% without losing content.

My talks and podcast appearances are linked to YouTube and Spotify, where captions and transcripts are available for many of them.

I keep the writing plain and avoid jargon where I can, in line with the blog's "plain talk, zero hype" approach.

Known limitations

Some sections use dark or gradient backgrounds. Text placed over the lighter parts of a gradient may not always have enough colour contrast. I'm reviewing these sections and moving towards solid backgrounds.

Some images contain text, such as award badges and blog cover images. The same information is in their descriptions, but the text inside the image can't be resized or restyled.

Captions and transcripts for talks hosted by event organisers, AWS, YouTube or Spotify are controlled by those platforms, so I can't guarantee them for every recording.

The site is built on Squarespace. Some parts of the template, such as the menu and cart, are controlled by Squarespace and may have issues I can't fix directly.

Feedback and contact

If you find something hard to use, or you need content in a different format, such as a plain-text version of a blog post or the slides from a talk, please email me at hello@lydiaray.com.

Tell me which page you were on and what went wrong. I'll reply within 5 working days and fix what I can.

If you're an event organiser booking me to speak, let me know about any accessibility needs for your audience, such as captions, large-print slides or a talk outline in advance. I'm happy to plan for them.

Keeping this up to date

I check the site against WCAG 2.2 AA myself, using automated tools and by navigating with a keyboard and screen reader. I review this statement at least once a year and whenever I redesign the site. The date at the top shows the last review.
